FRequently Asked Questions

Is your beef Organic or Corn Fed?

People often ask if the beef is organic or corn fed. We buy the young steers vaccinated and wormed and they are almost completely grass fed. We do give them a small amount of balanced feed to provide essential minerals and to keep them easier to handle. We do not have an organic certification, but we do not use any pesticides or antibiotics in our feed. Humanely raised animals produce happy animals that are best for the planet and are the healthiest and tastiest for us.

What cuts of meat will I get in my share?

The 600 pound hanging weight of beef yields approximately:
The 430 pounds of boneless, trimmed beef typical break out to include:
130 pounds ground beef. Note: There is always A LOT of ground beef!
60 pounds round roasts and steaks
55 pounds rib and loin steaks
35 pounds other cuts (brisket, flank, short ribs, skirt steak, soup bones)
The remainder is unusable bone and fat trim
Can I get less than a quarter beef?

If you are interested in less beef, I would recommend going in on a quarter beef with another friend or family and then divide it amongst yourselves.
In the near future, we are hoping to provide smaller orders

Are you USDA inspected?

Yes! We offer USDA inspected and custom cut meat.

Do You Deliver?

Yes! We deliver locally to the Preston, Taylor, Tucker and Mon counties in West Virginia. We also deliver to Washington, D.C. and Chicago. Wondering if we will deliver to you? Please send us an email, we just might!

I placed an order, when will I get my beef?

We slaughter our beef in the fall, typically around Thanksgiving. Delivery is usually a few weeks after that.

What will the final cost of my beef share be?

When you buy a beef share, you are literally buying a portion of a living animal. The cost of your share is $8/lb. Final weight of your beef will vary depending how how big he grows. We won't know that weight, the hanging weight, until he is butchered. Roughly speaking, a quarter beef would weight roughly 150# and at $7.00/lb would be $1050. A half beef, $2100, and a whole beef $4200. Remember, the final weight and cost will depend on how big your steer grows.

Why is the final amount of my beef less than the hanging weight?

When you buy a beef share, you are buying a portion of the cow, when the cow is butchered and packaged, not all of the parts of the cow are desirable to eat. So the final amount is usually about 60% of the hanging weight

Are our prices competitive?

Yes! We follow the USDA National Monthly Grass Fed Beef Report. As of 1/22/22 a half beef was $8.06 per pound of hanging beef, and a quarter beef $9.21 per pound of hanging beef, which does not include butchering and packaging or delivery!

Is your beef aged?

Not much. We would love to offer this but most local butchers, including ours, do not have the freezer space to age beef for many months. We think you will still find our beef delicious.
